My first exhibition, “Akmenu dvasia” — “The Spirit of Stones” — was presented in the central palace of "Zypliu Dvaras".
It became my first introduction of stones to the viewer as objects carrying memory, mystery, and spiritual meaning. The exhibition was created together with painter Virginijus Kasinskas, who exhibited his painted stones alongside my photographs. In this way, we brought together two different artistic styles and two different ways of looking at the same object and its significance. Photography and painting met in one shared theme, allowing the stones to speak through light, shadow, colour, texture, and form.
In my photographs, I sought to reveal the sacredness of Lithuanian mythological boulders and the quiet power of ancient ritual stones. For me, these stones are not only natural objects, but living signs of cultural memory, connecting the past, the present, and the human bond with the land. In the old Lithuanian belief, stones were seen as spiritual objects linked to deities, ancient rituals, ancestors, and the forces of nature. Through the rhythm of natural light, shadows, textures, and contrasts, I wanted the viewer to feel their mysterious aura, beauty, strength, and holiness.
“Akmenu dvasia” was an exhibition about the eternal presence of stone and its ability to preserve the sacred memory of nature and our ancestors.
